definitions you should be aware of

Vertical Market

A vertical market, or a vertical, is a group of customers and/or industries with the similar needs for specific products and/or services. No doubt, these are vendors themselves who identify such target groups as a vertical. Good examples of a vertical market are banking, hospitals, manufacturing, and more. The opposite of vertical market is horizontal market offering less specialized products and goods to more customers and a wide range of industries.

It is very important for a vendor to know, understand and consider their specific vertical market when it comes to advertising their products and services, take online advertising, for instance. To get more advertising for money they pay and to succeed in attracting target audience the vendor chooses the right websites and places their pay per click and/or banner advertising. In this case advertising drives more reliable customers since the groups the vendor is advertising with are already interested in specific products and/or services the vendor offers.
